PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- The city will try to sell a piece of its past today.

City officials and potential bidders will gather at 10 a.m. at the former fire station at 2700 Lafayette Road to begin the process of auctioning off the city-owned parcel. The 1968 building has been devoid of firefighters and equipment since June, when crews moved into a new, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified station less than a mile up the road.
